Georgia is the new Presidency country of the Leading Group on Innovative Financing for Development for 2017-2018.

The decision was made at the High Level Meeting “Re-galvanizing Innovative Financing for 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” on the margins of the 72nd sessions of the United National General Assembly on September 21, 2017.

The High Level Meeting in New York was attended by Mr. Giorgi Kvirikashvili - Prime Minister of Georgia, Ms. Brune Poirson - Secretary of State to the Minister for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition of France, Mr. Philippe Douste-Blazy - Under Secretary General and Special Advisor to the UN Secretary General on Innovative Financing and Mr. Yannick Glemarec, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of UN Women. The meeting has brought together high level speakers and experts from the Governments of France and Georgia as well as Dalberg, GOODCARD, UNITLIFE, African Risk Capital, Amundi, Global Clearinghouse for Development Finance and the Global Fund for Cities Development.

The new Presidency of Georgia for 2017-2018 will be chaired by Dr. Mariam Jashi – elected Member of the Georgian Parliament and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee for Education, Science and Culture. Dr. Jashi is a co-founder and a former CEO of the Solidarity Fund of Georgia, established under the Prime Minister’s Initiatives in 2014 as the largest national platform for innovative financing.

During a working meeting at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs in Paris, on 19th March, Dr Jashi agreed to share her vision of the issues around innovative financing for development and present the priorities of the Georgian Leading Group Presidency for 2017-2018.
