Last 21 September, the Ubuntu Forum held an event in New York, on the sidelines of the UN MDGs Summit.
The meeting, under the title of “Innovative financing for the MDGs, a precondition for success”, was organized in collaboration with the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and with the support of the United Nations Non-Governmental Liaison Service (UN-NGLS), the Center of Concern and SOLIDAR.
The core objective of this activity was that of discussing an essential issue regarding the fulfilment of the MDGs : the need to mobilize new resources to finance them. To this respect, the discussion explored the possibilities of applying taxes to financial transactions.
